Description |
Welcome, and thanks for taking the time to get to know me and learn about our campaign. I am running to bring a new vision and real-world leadership to the Santa Monica College Board. As an adjunct professor at Santa Monica College and member of its General Advisory board, I have seen the enormous opportunities we have to create a world-class community institute for our students—and we need to transform those opportunities into reality. Our community deserves a board member who understands the challenges that our students face and has the vision to address them. Throughout my career as a cardiologist at Harbor UCLA Medical Center, I’ve been proud to always remain active in education and the welfare of our students. Whether serving as Chair of the California Medical Association’s Resident and Fellow Section, working with my fellow members on the Santa Monica-Malibu School Board Health Advisory Committee, or fighting to increase access to healthcare by serving as a spokesperson for the “NO on Prop 46” campaign, I’ve worked hard to ensure that our students in Santa Monica- and throughout the state- have the best possible future available to them. Now I want to bring that passion and that leadership to the Santa Monica College Board of Trustees. We need to streamline the path from Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District to Santa Monica College, expand medical course offerings so our students can compete in a diverse and growing medical jobs market, and bring on more full-time faculty to ensure that SMC students are prepared for success when they graduate. Join us, and together, let’s continue to make Santa Monica College a national model of community college excellence. |
